SABAH N. RICHARD the most frequent stimulus for creased ventilation (i7E) normal subjects is muscular , it seemed relevant to determe to what extent of rib cage (Res,rc) abdomal (Res,ab) movements might affect physical performance the response of the ventilatory system durg heavy . This was the first aim of our study. Konno Mead (17) poted out that the tidal volume (VT) is the sum of the volume displaced by the abdomen that displaced by the rib cage. Thus of either of the compartments is associated with a compensatory crease the displacement of the other compartment order to mata a given VT (10). The second aim of our study was to test whether . the large crease VE with time heavy unricted was matched when movements were ricted, if so, whether the breathg pattern was similar. Although Green et al. (15) demonstrated that peak diaphragmatic electromyogram activity (Edi) was creased with Res,rc compared with control when VE was creased with moderate constant hypercapnia, they did not vestigate the relationship between Edi transdiaphragmatic pressure (Pdi). The third aim of our study was therefore to vestigate this relationship , both with Res,ab or Res,rc without of movements. METHODS mechanics; pattern
