In the same way, seeing a set of knowledge through the eyes of farmers, scientists A N D a third, neglected group--t6cnicos--can help get a clearer picture of local agriculture. The knowledge and experience of t6cnicos provides a forgotten perspective, which through its comparison with farmer and scientific knowledge, offers new methods for carrying out research. By scientists, we mean people with advanced degrees, who conduct research, especially in a laboratory or a research station. They tend to be senior people, based in the city. It is important to distinguish the scientists from another group, which in Spanish-speaking America are known as 't6cnicos' (technical people). We draw attention here to the potential of t6cnicos for making a more significant contribution to the research process.
