Resident's Forum Correspondence To the Editor : I read views of Dr. Abbas Hyder about thesis during M.D. Pediatrics with interest. I fully agree that a debate is needed on as to how to make it a fullfilling experience. Suggestions made by Dr. Hyder are useful but I believe more important is the commitment to research, both from the resident and the guide. Good quality clinical / epidemiological research, which does not need much of the laboratory support, can easily be done in almost all the places having a medical college. What it needs is meticulousness and honesty in data collection, some understanding of data analysis and commitment. Before moving to PGIMER, I have worked in a state medical college for 3 years and during this time each completed thesis resulted in at least one paper and sometimes two, all published in indexed journals, some in international journals. I often find that either the teachers are not interested / oriented in research or the candidates are trying to find short cuts to fill in few pages in the name of a thesis. If we are to improve the quality of thesis work done then we have to ensure
