Kodak Introduces White Light EPI-Illumina-
tion Option for Electrophoresis Documenta-
tion System
Enhanced Versatility for Digital Imaging of Opaque
Samples such as Blots and Plates
Eastman Kodak Company, Scientific Imaging Systems,
announces the availability of a new version of the popular
KODAK Electrophoresis Documentation and Analysis System
290 (EDAS 290). The new optional white light epi-illumina-
tion equipped imaging cabinet provides a convenient and easy
way to capture and analyze high resolution digital images of
opaque samples such as blots and plates, further enhancing
the versatility of the system. This new cabinet also accommo-
dates standard sized UV and white light boxes for imaging
electrophoresis gels and other specimens requiring
transmittant illumination conditions.
Eastman Kodak Company, Scientific Imaging Systems
group, develops and markets high performance films and digi-
tal imaging systems for scientific research. Key application
areas include autoradiography, electrophoresis gel documen-
tation, photomicrography, and high sensitivity fluorescence
and chemiluminescence imaging.

Eppendorf
Limited Edition—Centrifuge MiniSpin
®
plus
SPACE
Eppendorf’s family of MiniSpin centrifuges has gone from
success to success during the past year. Designed for use at
your personal workplace, the MiniSpin is extraterrestrially
compact, quiet and efficient.
NEW PRODUCTS
Eppendorf are now proud to present the MiniSpin plus
SPACE, a limited edition to brighten up the most boring of
everyday lab routines. However, you’ll have to reach for the
stars before the others beat you to it. The Mini Game
(www.minispin.de) is bound to make the waiting a little easier.
This easy-to-operate high-performance centrifuge is fitted
with a high-quality 12-position aluminum rotor for 1.5/2 ml
Eppendorf Tubes. The blue planet on the centrifuge lid even
allows you to add a further g to the acceleration force of
14000g.
Of course, the galactic design of the MiniSpin plus SPACE
includes plenty of our proven centrifuge technology for down-
to-earth laboratories. MiniSpin plus SPACE—the answer to
your laboratory tasks.
New Micromanipulator—TransferMan NK 2
The new Eppendorf TransferMan
®
NK 2 micromanipula-
tor was designed specially for operations requiring propor-
tional movement of the tool. The new kinetic features are par-
ticularly well suited to Intra-Cytoplasmatic Spermatozoa In-
jection (ICSI), the transfer of embryonic stem cells (ES cells)
in blastocysts and for other techniques requiring intuitive
movement control of the tool being used.
The TransferMan
®
NK 2 micromanipulator combines the
classic benefits of a mechanical system—intuitive control of
tool movements—with the advantages of a precise motorized
system. You can call repetitive tasks at the touch of a key; it is
easy to automate tasking even further by using a PC for
remote control.
User control of the TransferMan
®
NK 2 micromanipulator
by way of the self-explanatory keys is extremely simple. Ad-
ditional functions are available for the more experienced user.
User actions are assisted by the on-screen displays.
The tool directly follows the motion of the joystick. A
simple selector switches between coarse and fine manipula-
tion. Also, three working points in all three spatial coordinates
(X, Y, Z) can be stored and quickly and accurately selected
independently of each other by way of the button on the joy-
stick. This enables the user to keep his hand on the joystick
and his eyes on the object. A limit function protects the tool
against breaking off. This partial automation makes repetitive
work operations quicker and easier.
The deployment of two TransferMan
®
NK 2 micromanipu-
lators in conjunction with the two CellTram Air and CellTram
Oil or CellTram vario precison pressure metering units turns
the microscope into a perfect workstation for operations such
as ICSI or blastocyst injection.
General Catalogue 2002—Products and
Applications for the Laboratory
In addition to the classic BioTools (comprising liquid han-
dling, sample preparation and separation techniques), the new
Main Catalogue from Eppendorf AG now contains more than
100 pages of products and applications for the Molecular Tech-
nologies sector. This section focuses on nucleic acid isolation,
cell technology, molecular biology reagents, PCR systems and
the quantification of DNA and RNA.
