Differentiation in Coprinus lagopus

Differentiation in Coprinus lagopus 203 87 87 3 3 Thomas R. Matthews Donald J. Niederpruem Department of Microbiology Indiana University Medical Center 46202 Indianapolis Indiana USA ICN Nucleic Acid Research Institute 2727 Campus Drive 92664 Irvine California USA Summary A cover glass-water agar block complex placed on nutrient medium permitted nutritional control and microscopic observation of localized events in fruiting of Coprinus lagopus . Inhibition of localized fruiting in this complex was achieved by addition to the agar block of the primary carbon source ( d -glucose, 2%), but not with other medium ingredients. Initial events in localized fruiting included an ever increasing interaction of secondary and tertiary branches from various origins which led to complex hyphal lattices. Aerial mycelium arising in a restricted fashion from a hyphal lattice eventually developed into a macroscopic fruit-body primordium. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Archives of Microbiology Springer Journals
