For the CAT scan to be of maximal use it needs to be interpreted by a radiologist who is already adept in his subspecialty. For example, the neuroradiologist is best able to evaluate CAT brain scans and the genitourinary radiologist is most competent to deal with CAT scans of the urinary tract. 4. Even in areas, such as the appendicular skeleton, where CAT has little application at present, future developments will be most effectively guided and advanced by the radiological specialistwith an interest in a particular field. It has been concluded that a separate j o u r n a l for CAT scanning is neither desirable nor justified. Springer International recognises the need for an outlet for publication of articles on CAT. It is the publisher's and editors' intention, therefore, to incorporate into each of its subspecialty journals a continuum of articles dealing with CAT.
