Separation and detection of traces of copper, iron and manganese in cotton materials by TLCChromatographia, 22
Quantitative determination of iron, copper and manganese in woollen material by means of thin layer chromatography is described. The fabric sample was combusted and the residue dissolved in HCl (1∶1). The optimal separation on cellulose was achieved with the solvent system ethanol+1-butanol+HCl+H 2 O (60∶30∶5∶5, v/v). Locating reagent was sodium diethyldithiocarbaminate (used as 5% ethanol solution). It was found that in woollen cloth iron, copper and manganese could be detected down to 20 μg per gram of material.
