This b o o k is an e x c e l l e n t and timely addition to previous publications on the breeding o f wild animals in captivity. As the list of endangered species grows so will the requirement for establishing 'rescue' colonies in captivity or increasing the fecundity o f the remaining population in the wild. To scientists who are used to working on laboratory or domestic species there is a surprising lack o f basic i n f o r m a t i o n on the reproductive physiology of wild animals e.g. n u m b e r o f spermatozoa in the ejaculate, site o f deposition o f s e m e n in the female and whether ovulation is spontaneous or induced. This b o o k provides an answer to some o f these problems and is a good source o f current literature on the subject.
