Varying Perceptions SAGE Publications, Inc.1964DOI: 10.1177/074171366401400303 Harriet Naylor Personnel Consultant, Training Bureau of Personnel and Training, National Board of the YWCA IN DECEMBER 1963, the Council of National Organizations Volunteer- Staff Relations Committee brought out a packet of materials designed to identify differences among leaders in their perception, Probing V olunteer- Staff Relations.' Designed to clarify concepts and to increase common understanding among key leaders, the packet contains two sets of questionnaires, suggestions for administering them and discussion guides. The sexperience of the National Board and staff of the YWCA has led to many and varied uses of the tool and local YWCAs are encouraged to use it also. Having served as one of the testing organizations during the development of this tool, the National Board of the YWCA is now analyzing insights. Different perceptions of the organization are conditioned by role: volunteer or staff; or position: local or national. Leadership persons in four groups participated in the testing experience: 67 national board members, 33 national staff, 38 local board members, 24 local staff, totaling 162 persons. The proportions of the four populations sampled are 68, 58, 75 and 81% respectively. Selection was on the basis of attendance
