Using linear potentiometers in place of sine/cosine potentiometers

Abstract

Techniques are described that enable linear potentiometers to perform some of the functions which usually require sine/cosine potentiometers. The primary advantage is lower cost but, in some cases, the use of linear helical (multiturn) potentiometers also permits greater resolution. Applications of these techniques in phase shift circuits are discussed.
