Abstract
RReeppoorrtt The first Accounting History International Conference GGaarrrryy DD.. CCaarrnneeggiiee Deakin University A total of 46 delegates attended the first Accounting History International Conference held at Rydges Hotel, Melbourne during 4-6 August 1999. Of these 16 were visitors to Australia, many enjoying their first visit to the country. In total, 10 countries were represented at the conference. On the whole, it was the quality of the papers and the high standard of the presentations that impressed. A total of 18 papers were delivered at the conference including two plenary papers. The other 16 papers were categorised into six themes designated as follows: professionalisation of accounting, management accounting, international accounting, public sector accounting, case studies in management accounting and financial reporting. Whilst the conference program was comprehensive, all papers were delivered on a strict time basis through effective presentation planning and effective moderation. The only segment of the program which seemed to run over the anticipated time was the conference dinner as some delegates showed a genuine interest in the quality of Australian red wines that were served!
