Subjective Hand and Compressional Property Values of Woolen Fabrics

Abstract

Two differently finished woolen fabrics yield pressure-thickness curves to maxi mum pressures of 35, 50, and 70 gf/cm 2 . Compressional property values and subjec tive hand rankings are analyzed according to the finish types. Most compressional property values differ according to the finish and the maximum pressure. Subjective springiness differs according to finish type, while subjective fullness, hardness, and thickness do not differ. Predicted models for the subjective hand rankings are calculated from the compressional property values, fabric weight, and finish types through multiple stepwise regression. The coefficient of determination ranges from 0.90 through 0.97.
