Abstract
SGI Committee on Ethics: Statement on Ethics of Research O ne of the goals of the Society for Gynecologic In- vestigation (SGI) is to bring forth, through research, the discovery of new ideas, understanding, knowl- edge, and truths about women's health and the reproductive process as they affect both the individual and society as a whole. High standards of conduct and a clear emphasis upon intellectual integrity, honesty, and reporting of discoveries that are valid representations of truth are required to carry out research in a way that will benefit society. All members of the SGI have a responsibility to their colleagues and society at large to maintain the highest values and standards that govern the conduct of research. CONDUCT OF RESEARCH Values essential in research are honesty, skill, and thoroughness in performance of the investigation, and responsibility to peo- ple and institutions. Biomedical research may be supported by federal and state governments, academic institutions, private hospitals, and foundations, as well as industrial/commercial sectors of our society. There are governmental rules and reg- ulations to guide both recipients and institutions in the proper management of research awards. Not to follow these rules and regulations is irresponsible and, in
