The UNESCO international conference on Music in Education in Brussels, 29 June to 9 July 1953, gave me and some others in the UK a first opportunity to broaden our views, and learn what other people in other countries were doing, their problems, their successes. As may be imagined, with over 300 people taking part from many different countries and backgrounds, different languages, lodging in different parts of the city, my first impression was of some confusion, but that was sorted out and one quickly became acquainted with other participants, mainly from Europe, America and Canada, but
