Organization of Security and Co-operation in EuropeThe Vienna Proceedings SAGE Publications, Inc.1972DOI: 10.1177/096701067200300210 March 10-12, 1972, a conference was held in Vienna on 'Organization of security and co-operation in Europe'. The conference was organized by the International Institute for Peace, Vienna, and the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo; and was supported by the Institute for Peace Research at the Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna. Participating in the conference were 45 social scientists from 17 countries in Europe and from the USA. Debates were held in two sections: I. Promotion of European co-operation, and II. Reduction of military confrontation. The following is a summary of the proceedings. Section I: Promotion of European co-opcratiort 1. General observations As a basis for the discussion was used the document 'Some institutional suggestions for a system of security and co-operation in Europe', prepared by the Working Group on European Cooperation and Security that grew out of the Conference held on the same topic February 19-21, 1971, by the International Institute for Peace (in the following referred to as 'the report', published in the Bulletin of Peace Proposals, 1972, pp. 73-88).
