Hemsley, Bra,nch Secretary HE Northern Branch of the Association held its annual Summer School at Heather Brae Hotel, Middleton-in-Teesdale, this year and recorded such good attendance that overflow accommodation had to be secured in Middleton. Mr. David Allen presided and the School was organised ~by Mr. Newton Hemsley; Miss L. Edmanson was Treasurer. The Home Office was represented by Mr. B. J. Reynolds (Head of the Probation Branch) and Mr. Davey .of the Children Branch. The lecturners included Mr. F. J. O. Coddington, Stipendiary Magistrate for Bradford, Mr. C. W. Muir, a barrister on the North Easitern Circuit, and author of the book " Justice in a Depressed Area " and Mr. B. J. Reynolds., Home Office. Mr°. B. J. Reynolds~, head of the Probation Branch of the Home Office, spoke on the need for accurate enquiry into the results of probation treatment.
