Jules V. Willing, a former Personnel Manager, in his book 'The Reality of Retirement says ``Autht~rity is powder No matter how else it may be construed, retirement :is the total loss of authority, finally and completely". To many it can be traumatic. Successful retirement, especially for former executives, professional and business men requires continuing fellowship with others, regular participation in absorbing activities and a broad interest in current affairs. The same applies to former executive, business and professional women. Such people, during their careers, tend to confine their friendships, largely, to others within their business or profession and the opportunity to make new friendships is, generally, limited to that area. In retirement, access is no longer available readily to such groups. The only basis, in the normal course, of meeting others and forming new relationships with ` them becomes very restricted.
