Abstract
ASSOCIATION NEWS & NOTES 527 From the JASAG Newsletter In the latest JASAG Newsletter, Sachihiko Harashina wrote about the importance of "heart-ware." As a professor of environmental planning, he points out the necessity of conducting activities to improve citizen awareness toward environmental policy and to acquaint them with responsible environ- mental behavior. People need to realize how important the environment is in order to agree with, or cooperate in, environmental policy. To date, most activities have been focused on giving opportunities to people to experience nature as much as possible. This is one of the best ways of helping people realize the importance of the environment. However, to enable them to understand the mechanism of the natural world and the relationship between human activities and environmental system, merely giving opportunities is not enough. Education through simu- lation and gaming is one of the most powerful ways of enhancing people's understanding of the relationship. In the field of global environmental edu- cation, the power of simulation and gaming has never been stronger. NASAGA News and Notes Richard L.
