Abstract
Transformation (1998) 15:4, 32 0265-3788 Mini-audit for churches Compiled by Rebecca S. Samuel Shah This mini-audit is compiled from the contributions of disabled and non-disabled participants attending an international consultation on `A Christian Response to Disability', to help churches check their facilities, their means of communication, and their attitudes towards people with disabilities. We suggest this audit be used to identify any obstacles or lack of facilities that may prevent people with disabilities from fully participating in the life of the church community. Are there any members willing to sit next to disabled people to assist them during the service if needed. (Share the Bible, song book, locate pages, hold communion elements)? ______ Scripture, liturgy and language Are the language and liturgy used sensitive to disabled people? ______ Are there any requests made during the service for the congregation to `stand up', to `kneel down' or to `close their eyes'? ______ If `yes' to the above question, are these requests made in a way that is sensitive to the presence of people with disabilities? ______ Is special attention given to passages in Scripture which deal with disability? ______ Background information How many adults (over 18 years of age)
