The history of the establishment of the company and of its initial legal research service, LEXIS, is outlined and the LEXIS service currently available is described. The introduction and nature of subsequent services are also outlined. These include: NEXIS, a general news and business information service which also contains INFOBANK (abstracts of current affairs, business, economic, social and political information), AMI (abstracts covering key changes in the market place) and TODAY (same-day news service); LEXPAT containing the full text of all US patents issued since 1975; NAARS, the National Automated Accounting Research Service; Exchange, a full-text financial database of company and industry research reports; LEXTRACK, a private library service; and ECLIPSE, a new electronic clipping service. Other aspects of MDC's operations described are: the development of the user-friendly software behind the services; the desk-top UBIQ terminal, separate ink-jet printer and other compatible hardware available; the computer centre itself; the marketing and sales organisation; and future expansion proposals and forecasts.
