The reading for coherence which Long attempts is fully reasonable, but unconvincing. As with Gunn's work, one must be wary of the seeming neutrality of avowed ahistoricism in a work which reads the text as if located within a real world, while at the same time asserting ignorance of both literary context and historical referent. The ignorance has integrity, but one has doubts about the reading. TLT http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal for the Study of the Old Testament SAGE
