Stockton Manager of SCS Operations by The occasion of a Western Simulation Council meeting in the northern part of California brought together 28 SCS members and friends on February 27, 1978, to meet for the first time in several years in San Jose. We gathered to learn about Interactive Computer Graphics in Decision Support Applications in Government from Dr. Frank Lockfeld, Director of the Santa Clara Center for Urban Analysis in San Jos6. After brief introductory remarks, Martin Dost, program chairman for the dinner meeting, introduced Dr. Lockfeld, who provided us with some background information on the Center for Urban Analysis. Established in 1973, the Center interfaces with several local government agencies to provide facilities for relating to and manipulating different sources of "geo- graphically referenced" information. Such information may take the form of street addresses, intersections, specifically named places such as "XYZ Shopping Center," etc. This information is then related to and compared with demographic or property characteristics gathered from other sources.
