ANTEC '99 The annual technical conference of the Society of Plastics Engineers was held in New York City on May 2-6 with over 4300 people attending the sessions at ANTEC '99. Thirty-five of the papers were of interest to those involved with plastic film and sheeting. Many of them were of excellent calibre and we hope to publish several of them in thisjournal. BOOK REVIEW Metallized Plastics 5 & 6: Fundamental and Applied Aspects, 1998, K. L. Mittal and K.-W. Lee., Editors, VSP, Utrecht, The Netherlands. This volume contains 29 revised and up-dated papers which were first presented at the 5th and 6th symposia on metallized plastics which were held in May 1996 and September 1997, respectively. It includes metallization techniques and properties of metal deposits, surface modi- fication and adhesion aspects, and spectroscopic investigation of interfa- cial interactions. Some of the papers contain information which could be very helpful to those in the plastic film and sheet industry. These in- clude: titanium nitride on acrylic and polyimide (PI) by pulsed layer de- position; electron cyclotron resonance plasma to provide an adhesion promoter for sputtered Ti or electroplated copper on PTFE, PI and PBT; improved abrasion resistance of
