Abstract
NolaBuhr University of Saskatchewan This double special issue features a range of articles based on confer- ence papers that were presented at the fifth Accounting History International Conference (5AHIC) held in Banff, Canada during 9–11 August 200~ There were 66 papers included on the conference pro- gram. Eight of those papers have been developed further and selected for inclusion in this special issue. The theme of the conference and, therefore, the theme for this special issue is “Accounting in Other Places, Accounting by Other Peoples”. When conference convenors signify a theme they often offer suggestions as to the sorts of interesting papers they are looking to attract. Accordingly, the suggestions for what “Accounting in Other Places, Accounting by Other Peoples” might encompass included: • The professionalization of accounting in the developing world; • The role of imperialism in spreading accounting practice; • Accounting history issues that interface with race, gender or culture; and • The role of accounting and accountants in non-business settings such as art and music. Of course, suggestions can be made and contemplated, but authors will choose their topics and write about issues that interest them. The intent behind the conference theme was to openPreview Only.
