Abstract

JOURNAL OF ADOLESCENT RESEARCH / January 2001 EDITOR'S NOTE Editor's Note G. Stanley Hall was a major historical figure who generated an interest in thestudyofadolescence.Sincethen,therehavebeenmanyscholarsinfluenc- ing the direction and focus of the study of adolescence and youth. Among scholars from many different fields, Hershel and Ellen Thornburg launched both the Journal of Early Adolescence and the Journal of Adolescent Research. The content of these journals and the promotion by Sage Publica- tions has led to a widely recognized and respected set of publications. As the current editor of the Journal of Adolescent Research, I am striving to encour- age progress in the use of advances in methodological and statistical tech- niques in the study of adolescence and adolescent development. To assist in this endeavor, I have invited two world-class methodologists, Alexander von Eye and Christof Schuster, to serve as coeditors for this two- part special issue. Their efforts have resulted in a special issue that appears in Volume 16, Number 1 and Volume 16, Number 2. These two scholars, work- ing as special issue editors, have brought together outstanding methodo- logists and statisticians from around the world.
