"I told you to stay away from them and play with those nice behaviorist children instead." "But Ma, some of them have joined up with the cognitive kids, too. You ought to hear their language." "Just say to yourself, 'Sticks and stones may break my bones but hypothetical constructs can never hurt me. " "But Ma, you're wrong, they make my head hurt real bad." "Why don't you stop messing with those children altogether? Go on to your room and play with reinforcement schedules for a while, maybe write a behavioral objective or two." "Will that stop my head from hurting, Ma?" "No, but it will hurt in a different way." In case you haven't noticed, 1984 is almost upon us and it is time to brace ourselves for a year with George Orwell. We can anticipate an assault of Orwellian tributes in the months to come. We might even be in for another animated version of Animal Farm, one perhaps with implications for special educators-you know: "All of us are for
