Abstract

This article presents the highlights of the author's survey of current thought in the United States on the use of prediction statistics in parole selection and the extent to which prediction tables are used or have been used by paroling authorities in each of the fifty states. Also presented are the views of leading criminologists, prison administrators, and parole board members about prediction devices and their place in parole selection.
