Conformity, Suicide and Homicide

Abstract

From Henry and Short's theory of suicide and homicide, I predicted that nations with members who conform more should have a relatively high homicide rate and low suicide rate. Two measures of conformity with scores available for samples of males in several nations were used. Neither measure provided significant associations between the con formity scores of the national samples and the suicide and homicide rates in those nations. Thus , the predictions based on Henry and Short's theory were not confirmed.
