This publication contains 18 chapters (9 of which are in French) from the international symposium on 'Hard rock hydrosystems' organized by the IAHS International Committee on Tracers and the IAHS International Commission on Groundwater during the Fifth IAHS Scientific Assembly held at Rabat, Morocco, from 23 April to 3 May 1997. The aim of the symposium was to highlight recent theoretical and methodological benefits of applied research and to point out the need and direction for future research and development of hard rock hydrogeology. The chapters are separated into four groups: seven under the topic of hydrogeochemistry of fissured rock systems; one focusing on the use of tracers for the characterization of fractured rock systems; nine relevant to hydraulic conductivity, scale effects and modelling of fractured rock systems; and one on artificially created conditions
