It tells the life story of Gerhard Mueller, who is appropriately called the “Father of International Accounting Education”. His biographer is Dale Flesher who has ably painted a portrait of one of the great figures of American accountancy education, practice and theory. However, Mueller’s influence goes far beyond the United States, as his recommendation regarding the formation of an international accounting authoritative body came to fruition at the 10th International Congress of Accounting Educators in Sydney, Australia in 1972 where the delegates approved the formation of the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC), commencing in 1973.The first section of the book contains four chapters which provide insights into Mueller’s early years in Germany and his move to the University of California at Berkeley where he began his doctoral programme in 1958.
