Book reviews Disorder and harmony: 20th centur perspectives on accounting history Selected papers from the 7th World Congress of Accounting Historians, Kingston, Canada, 11-13 August 1996. Alan J. At four yearly intervals the International Committee for Congresses of Accounting Historians and the Academy of Accounting Historians organise a World Congress. During 11-13 August 1996, the 7th World Congress was held at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. In the words of the Convener, Alan Richardson, the Congress provides "... an opportunity to reflect on the state of the profession, accounting education and scholarship" (p.2). The Congress also fosters the nexus of accounting historians from all corners of the globe, bringing to the conference a range and diversity of topics, methodologies and perspectives, which enriches this international community. The monograph reviewed here presents a snapshot of the Congress through the publication of fifteen refereed papers and the opening plenary address given by Daniel Wren (University of Oklahoma). This opening address, "Connections: The Shared Heritage of Accounting and Management History", dealt with the relationship between management and accounting. Wren argued that the beginnings of systematic managerial accounting could be traced to the developmentPreview Only.
