Abstract
Book review Critical and historical studies in accounting Warwick Funnell and Robert Williams (editors) Pearson Prentice Hall, Sydney, 2005, xx and 541 pp. The academic literature genre of compilations in honour of respected individuals continues with the release of the volume edited by Warwick Funnell and Robert Williams in recognition of the work done over many years by Michael Gaffikin. This particular volume follows a small number of similar publications compiled to honour highly respected scholars in the accounting research field as they move into a post-academic appointment phase of their lives. Of the small number of volumes in this genre, Funnell and Williams have produced arguably the most comprehen- sive and targeted example to date. The impressive aspect of this compilation is that it has been drawn almost entirely from the community of accounting scholars at the University of Wollon- gong. The material the editors have drawn upon from within this circle is no doubt strategic and designed to not only showcase the scholarly attainments of the School of Accounting and Finance but, more particularly, to demonstrate the sustained scholarly influence Gaffikin has exerted over a continuous stream of established and emerging scholars.
