WORK AND ABOUT THEOCCUPATIONS AUTHORS ABOUT THE AUTHORS Deborah B. Balser is an assistant professor of management and public policy admin- istration at the University of MissouriSt. Louis. Her research interests include work- place and interorganizational conflict, disability, inequality, and social movements. Her work has appeared in Social Forces and Human Relations. She is currently study- ing hownonprofit organizations manage stakeholders. April Brayfield is associate professor of sociology at Tulane University. Her spe- cialty areas are childhood, gender, and the work-family nexus. Her current research examines the images of children in sociology journals and the relationship between social structure and individual attitudes toward family policies and children in the Eu- ropean Union. Carolyn Harley is currently a researcher at Ingenix Pharmaceutical Services. Her re- search focuses on the social stratification of health, social capital, and human capital development in young adulthood. Other areas of particular interest include women's and family health, access to care, and health care for those living with HIV and AIDS. Kathryn J. Lively is currently a postdoctoral fellowat Indiana University's Training Program in Identity, Self, Role, and Mental Health.
