* ABOUT THE AUTHORS JEAN M. BARTUNEK is Professor of Organizational Studies in the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. She received a Ph.D. in social and organiza- tional psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is coauthor of Creating Alternative Reali- ties at Work (Harper Business, 1990) and coeditor of Hidden Conflict in Organizations (Sage, 1992), as well as numerous articles and book chapters. She has served as chairperson of the Organization Development and Change division of the Academy of Management. Her research interests focus around the intersection of so- cial cognition, conflict, and organizational change. KATHY M. BEARD is a doctoral student in organiza- tional behavior and human resources management at the University of Michigan Business School. She holds a master's degree in information systems. Her pri- mary research interests are socioemotional behaviors in task groups, learning in groups, and the manage- ment of high-impact work teams. MICHAEL BEER is Professor of Business Administra- tion at Harvard Business School where his research and teaching have been in the areas of organization effectiveness, human resource management, and or- ganization change.
