Abstract
ABOUT THE AUTHORS Audrey Addi is a doctoral candidate in sociology at Tel Aviv University. Her dissertation focuses on contextual effects of schools and communities on gender- based inequality among teachers. Currently, she is an instructor in the school of education at Tel Aviv University. Yitchak Haberfeld is a senior lecturer in labor studies at Tel Aviv University. His research interests include self-selection and assimilation of immigrants in labor markets, and gender- and ethnic-based earnings differentials. Nancy C. Jurik is an associate professor ofjustice studies at Arizona State University. She has published research on women and crime, and on gender issues in the workplace. She just published a book with Susan Ehrlich Martin titled Doing Justice, Doing Gender: Women in Law and Criminal Justice Occupations (Sage, 1996). Her current research focuses on women and men in home businesses, and on microenter- prise loan programs in the United States. Kevin T. Leicht is an associate professor of sociology and a research scholar at the Obermann Center for Advanced Study at the University of Iowa. His research focuses on gender inequality among professionals and managers, career decision making, and organizational and political analyses of postindustrial society. He is currently editor
