ARAMCO is important not merely because of the involvement of four major oil companies of the United States and their huge investments in it, but also because it offers a unique case in that it has not encountered the troubles and tribulations to which other oil companies, some of them belonging to the parent companies of ARAMCO, had succumbed elsewhere. However, often differences of opinion and disagreements have occurred in the past in the interpretation and implementation of the concession agreements and contracts granted by the Saudi Arabian Government. At times, these disputes have brought bitterness between the contracting parties and even beclouded the existing friendly relations.
