This article discusses a practice development project launched to improve the quality of care on nine adult acute inpatient wards at an NHS mental health trust. Evaluation of the project focused on outcomes and the process of change. Service improvements, including increases in the amount of time staff spent in direct contact with service users and in the time spent involved in therapeutic activities, were observed.
