Announcements Rocky Mountain Review ANNOUNCEMENTS The Institute of International Education has announced a Foreign Lan- guage Teaching Assistant Program offering U.S. educational institutions the opportunity to engage native French or German speakers for language teaching programs. Assistants may teach, correct papers, supervise language labs, and work in foreign language extra-curricular activities. In return for these services, the host institution offers room and board, a tuition waiver, and a stipend, which usually ranges from $100 to $300 per month. Guest speakers for the conference are Kenneth Burke, Janice Lauer, Don Murray, James Raymond, and William Stafford. To receive registration materials and to submit proposals for papers, panels, and workshops, write to Tilly Warnock, Conference Director, Department of English, University of Wyoming, Laramie, 82071. Deadline for submissions is April 1, 1985. The third annual conference of the Rocky Mountain Writing Centers Association will be hosted by Boise State University on June 15, 1985. The principal speaker will be Donald M. Murray of the University of New Hampshire, author of Write to Learn and A Writer Teaches Writing. The conference schedule will allow for both 20-minute and one-hour sessions. Informal talks and demonstrations are preferred, but proposals for papers are also welcome. Suggested topics include: tutoring methods; tutor training; ways to get a writing center started; ways to make a writing center survive (and thrive); and the role of the writing center in the English department, the school, and the community. Proposals should include: (1) name, position, and institution; (2) title of presentation; (3) a one-paragraph description, including purpose, method of presenting the material, and content.
