Edward E. Levine, M.D : 1912- 1980 Edward E. Levine, M.D. 1912-1980 Dr. Edward E. Levine, a retired radiologist, died quietly at his home in Huntington Woods, Michigan on February 13, 1980. He was 67 years old. Dr. Levine was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 25, 1912. He was graduated from the University of Chicago with a B.S. degree in 1933. He subsequently attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine where he received his M.D. degree in 1937. He was then elected to Alpha Omega Alpha honorary medical society. After graduation, he served an internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago from July 1937 through December 1938. Dr. Levine then came to Detroit and began the general service practice of medicine. In 1942, he entered the military where he served as a captain in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1942 to 1946. Dr. Levine then served as a resident in radiology at Veterans Administration Hospital, Dearborn, Michigan from January 1947 to January 1949 when he became that hospital’s chief of the Radiological Section. He served with distinction there until 1966 when he left to enter the private practice of radiology. In Docember of 1972, Dr. Levine was afflicted with a serious illness and was subsequently able to only practice intermittently and therefore was obliged to go into partial retirement. He became an aviation enthusiast in his later years and he received his pilot’s license after the age of 50. He flew his own plane on many long trips across the country to attend radlologic meetings. When he gave up this pastime because of his Illness, he became a devoted hobbyist in electronics and sound recordings, in which he continued until his death. Numerous radiologists who practice in the Detroit metropolitan area trained under Dr. Levine’s tutelage at the Dearborn Veterans Administration Hospital and all remember him as a very dedicated and capable teacher. He was an assistant professor of Clinical Radiology at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan during the time he was chief of radiology at the veterans hospital. Dr. Levine is survived by his wife, the former Ethel Isenberg, two daughters, Laura Niessen and Linda, and a son, Harry.
