The Long-Term Impact of Preschool Prevention Programs: A Commentary

Abstract

Consistent evidence obtained by independent researchers surveying slightly different but overlapping outcome literatures confirms that preschool programs have statistically significant and practical long-term preventive impact. These programs are a notable achievement in prevention. We can now close the book on the question of whether or not the results of preschool preventive interventions are durable over time; several programs have produced gains that last for a substantial period. Now, we need to understand how well-conducted programs produce their positive effects.
