Abstract
The results from the open-versus-hidden methodology of are impressive. Among the most important contributions of the article is the open–hidden methodology. It is a creative methodology that directly assesses the effects of the therapeutic context on medical outcomes. This commentary focuses on both methodological issues and the clinical implications of the results. To provide a powerful demonstration of the effects of therapeutic context, a number of variables were confounded. Future research must move beyond demonstrations of the power of therapeutic context to research that identifies mechanisms of action. Important cautions about openness, trust, and verification of findings in clinical settings are emphasized in making the translation of research findings to clinical application.Preview Only.
