Abstract
This commentary critically reviews the self-assessment template proposed by C. D. Belar and colleagues (2001) that is intended to guide psychologists who wish to transition to working in a health care setting. The template outlines areas of additional knowledge and skills a psychologist should acquire when making the transition. This commentary raises the question of whether sufficient knowledge and skill can be acquired by psychologists who do not have prior significant exposure to a medical setting during their graduate training, internship, or postdoctoral training. However, the template provides a good working tool for psychologists already in health care settings or those in training programs to guide their acquisition of knowledge and clinical experiences in the health care setting.Preview Only.
