Abstract
advocated for a major new initiative to develop and test programs for preventing depression in women. It is suggested that these important prescriptions need to be further refined and extended to attend to recent advances in longitudinal epidemiology and developmental psychopathology. Two such advances are discussed: findings concerning recurrence of major depressive episodes across the life course and new formulations concerning the etiology of recurrence. Models involving stable or progressive vulnerability are discussed in terms of implications for the next generation of prevention trials designed to reduce risk for longer-term patterns of recurrent depression.Preview Only.
