Research on psychosomatic interactions and placebo effects forms the background for a commentary on a comparison of “open” versus “hidden” medical treatments. While contemporary medicine appears to be striving for increasingly impersonal techniques for prevention and treatment, these studies show that patients’ knowledge, beliefs, and expectations can make a difference to outcome.Preview Only.
