Editors' Note on Debate Concerning Emotional Intelligence
Abstract
<p>This issue of Emotion opens with a feature that we intend to become a regular institution in the publication of the journal: an article followed by invited peer commentary. Our underlying principle for such commentary is to invite a small number of eminent scholars (experts in different areas) to provide brief comments on an article that is likely to generate debate. We believe that it is useful to publish such commentary in the same issue as the original article to allow readers to ponder the protagonists' arguments in direct juxtaposition.</p><p>We do not intend to emulate those journals specializing in commentary (such as Brain and Behavioral Sciences or Psychological Inquiry ) that invite and publish theoretical papers or review articles which are then submitted to many peer commentators. Rather, we will identify articles accepted in the normal course of reviewing that are likely to spur controversy. In some cases, as with the article in this issue, this might imply a direct reply or rejoinder by scholars whose theoretical ideas or empirical data are being challenged by the article to be published.
