Body Concept

Abstract

This article reviews various attempts made at defining and measuring body self-concept. The relationship between body and general self-concept is then examined, and a breakdown of the body self-concept for purposes of measurement is proposed. Psychometric qualities of paper-and-pencil measures of body self-concept are considered, and recommendations regarding design of future instruments of this type are made.
