Authorized and unauthorized rest pauses in clerical work

Abstract

The introduction of two short rest pauses into the working day of 16 comptometer operators, without reducing total working time, was found to reduce unauthorized rest pauses and to increase speed of work. Questionnaire responses from the operators revealed that the primary objection to the authorized rest pauses was the crowded condition of the rest room.
