Well-done and interesting studies of voting behavior in newly-ï¬edged democracies are greatly needed. This is not only so in order to understand and appropriately interpret what is going on in those new democracies, but also because a great deal of our knowledge and existing literature on voting behavior is mainly based on the analysis of some Western European democracies, North America, or, at best, on comparative studies of a set of Western Democracies. The study of voters in new democracies might reveal new or more conclusive evidence of existing ï¬ndings and hypotheses, setting the scene for major theoretical debates in the ï¬eld. Unstable, changing electoral and political settings or uninformed and unanchored voters, so frequently present among these newly-ï¬edged democracies, might oï¬er a perfect arena for testing some of the most disputed hypotheses in the ï¬eld, such as the formation of party identiï¬cation and its role in predicting voting behavior, the formation and eï¬ect of
