What's Happening FORUM What’s Happening Second International Workshop on Presence April 6–7, 1999, University of Essex, Colchester, UK http://privatewww.essex.ac.uk/ jfreem/Presence_Workshop.html Following last year’s 1st International Workshop on Presence, the UK Independent Television Commission and BT invite academics and industrialists with an interest in presence research and applications to attend the Second International Workshop on Presence. The workshop will bring together academic researchers in media and presence, content and technology developers, and commercially interested parties so that they can meet, present their research, and exchange ideas. This two-day workshop will start with plenary paper presentations providing a good overview of the state of the art of current research. Subsequently, small workgroups will be established to discuss specific topics: copresence, definition and measurement, and specific application areas. These workgroups will be asked to report back to the plenary session on the second day to enable a broad discussion. The afternoon of the second day will be reserved for free discussions and the opportunity to sample some presenceenhancing technologies. Exhibition in the Budmerice Castle, about 90 km from Vienna).
