Roundtable Discussion: Womenâs HealthâMenopause and Related Conditions Moderator: Catherine Ulbricht, PharmD Participants: Ellen Kamhi, PhD, RN, AHG, AHN-BC, Fredi Kronenberg, PhD, Tieraona Low Dog, MD, Amanda McQuade Crawford, DipPhyt, RH (AHG), and David Sollars, LAc Catherine Ulbricht: We are here today with a multidisciplinary group of clinicians and scientists to discuss womenâs healthâspecifically, issues concerning menopause. During this roundtable discussion, we will address a range of topics related to perimenopause and menopause, such as hot flashes, sleep disorders, dysmenorrhea, mood disorders, and osteoporosisâall of which may be indications for medical intervention. Other issues we will touch upon include the changes in memory, libido, and lifestyle that are associated with menopause. To cope with the changes that occur with menopause, many women use a number of complementary and alternative therapiesâalso known as integrative therapiesâwhich are often used along with conventional therapies, in addition to special diets and changes in lifestyle, to help ease this natural transition. I represent the Natural Standard Research Collaboration, which conducts evidence-based systematic reviews of the safety and efficacy of natural agents, such as sage and rose hips, for the treatment or prevention of various health conditions.
